The goal
of the School-Based Mentor Program is to provide positive modeling and
interaction between adults and children that leads to school and
lifetime
success.
Mentoring
is a one-to-one relationship between a
school-aged youth and an adult. In the School-Based Mentor Program an
adult
mentor is matched with an elementary or middle school student from the
Sioux
Falls Public School District.
Once a week
for an hour, mentors meet with a
student at school during a convenient time. Mentors and students enjoy
a
variety of activities together, such as: working in the computer lab,
playing
board games, reading a book, playing basketball or simply eating lunch
together
and talking.
The
School-Based Mentor Program is a partnership
of Lutheran Social Services, the Sioux Falls School District, and the
United
Way.
