Coffee Hour Serving:

This ministry helps Messiah New Hope provide a more welcoming place for all whom God sends to us.  The goodies, coffee, and juice are provided, but help is needed to serve.  This is a fun and easy way for an individual, couple, or family to serve on Sunday mornings, as well as get to know others in the congregation.  If you are interested please sign up in the lobby area or contact the church office.

Coffee Hour Volunteer Procedure

Thank you for volunteering for Sunday morning coffee hour serving. Your time helps provide a more welcoming place for the people and guests of Messiah New Hope. If you have any questions please contact the church Administrative Assistants.

There are 2 families/persons assigned to each Sunday.  Persons assigned in the   #1 column will be the ones to pick up the order at the 10th street Hy-Vee and start the coffee prior to 1st service.  Persons assigned in the #2 column will be the ones to clean up after the 2nd service.

BOTH families/persons should be present during the fellowship hour between services to place out refreshments, which should be ready by end of the 1st service.  You will want to hold back some doughnuts/cookies, etc. to place out for after the 2nd service.  Allow 15-20 min (or sooner if nobody is there) after the 2nd service for fellowship before cleaning up.

Hy-Vee order:  the 10th street Hy-Vee will charge to an in-house account for the church.  There is a standing order at the Bakery.  When you go to check out tell them it is an in-house charge account to Messiah New Hope & you will just need to sign the ticket.  The church office gets an itemization sent to them of all transactions.

Cupboards are marked in the kitchen so you can locate items easily.  Juice mix, extra coffee, will be found in the back pantry closet.

1. Make Coffee:

Utilize the percolator coffee makers (larger one for regular coffee and the smaller one for decaf).

There is a faucet to fill the coffee makers right above them to make it easier to fill.

We utilize the Equal Exchange Fellowship Blend Coffee.  This coffee is made for percolators.  Directions are on the back of bags or as follows:

30 cups of coffee = 2 cups of grounds

55 cups of coffee = 3 cups of grounds

100 cups of coffee = 6 cups of grounds

Fill water to line for # of cups you want and then insert the pole with basket of coffee grounds on top. Attach lid & plug in. The coffee takes aprox 45 min to 1 hour to be done so you will want to plug in before or just as the 1st service is starting.

Please note you will want to plug the coffee percolator in the same place you wish to have it for serving.  There are air pots available if you choose to use them or you can place the percolators directly in the kitchen window.

*If you wish to make a smaller amount of coffee for meetings, small groups, etc, please use the drip coffee maker.  There are different coffee grounds to utilize for the drip machine. (Not the fellowship blend)

2. Make a juice drink and/or ice water:

Drink mix can be found in the large pantry closet in the back of the kitchen and the pitchers can be found in the corner cupboard.

3. Place snacks on platters or bowls:
Be sure to set aside some to be set out for after the 2nd service.

Place out cups, sugar, creamer, spoons, coffee flavor syrups, napkins and offering basket.  (Free will)  In an effort to be more cost effective and more environmentally friendly we are using real cups for coffee/juice. Not paper

4. Clean Up:

Please leave kitchen clean & hang any wet towels on sink to dry. Wash up any cups, trays, pitchers, etc. you may have used.

To run dishwasher place items on storage trays, put one tray at a time into washer and flip switch to on.  It takes aprox 5 min per wash.  Put cup racks back on storage cart & let cups air dry.  You will want to dry the silverware & platters used & put way in cupboards.  The rack to use for washing silverware is the one with the very small holes so the silverware does not fall through.

Collect any offering and place in an envelope marked  “Coffee Hour” and give to Offering Counters or ushers.

Thank you!
