An adult bible study as an integrated part of the Messiah New Hope
Holy Moly Wednesday nights!
Dive into scripture lessons that mirror the content all our MNH children will be studying!
Parents and grandparents- dig into a deeper understanding of each week’s theme, enabling greater interaction dialog with our youth during the week at home!
ALL adults (including high schoolers) who want to continue to grow in our shared knowledge and understanding of our faith walk. We need YOU to help make this group complete!
Each week will be a free standing lesson that you can dig into at your own pace - for some that will mean extensive advance study, and for others, simply showing up to listen and dialog as we learn together!
Hi! I’m Lori! I will be there to facilitate and jump start our conversation each week, with the group taking this study to a format and level that best meets our needs. We will begin each week with the youth in prayer, then head to our own classroom for the balance of the hour to read scripture and discuss the lessons. Bring your coffee cup, come as you are - together we will discover our own Holy Moly moments!
When I study scripture, I often reflect on Psalm 119:11, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and alight to my path.”; This reminds me the Bible is the best tool to help me navigate my life’s journey! I firmly believe that in isolation I cannot grow fully as a Christian - I need my community of faith to strengthen my walk. We are meant to be in community to study, learn and grow! “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” -Hebrews 10:24-25
Meets monthly to discuss a selection. Books range from spiritual masterpieces to contemporary thought provokers. Most tend to be of manageable length. Often, an ongoing study or accompaniment is available via the Facebook event for that month.
September to December we will be reading Rev. Dr. Mark Allan Powell’s “Loving Jesus”. Dr. Powell is one of the ELCA’s premier teaching theologians. Renowned for his, “How Lutherans Read the Bible” video series, Dr. Powell’s “Loving Jesus” asks Christians to revisit their faith not by blazing in religious enthusiasm, but by harboring a steadier flame and deeper commitment. Drawing on his wide knowledge of the Bible, Christian tradition, and his own experience, Dr. Powell invites us into a closer walk with Jesus.
Club meets once a month on Sunday at 2pm.
September: Introduction– Chapter 5 (pp. 1-50)
October: Chapter 6-10 (pp.51-99)
November: Chapter 11-15 (pp. 100-146)
December: Chapter 16-20 (pp. 147-197)
